Western Michigan Teen Challenge is one path that will show you how to throw down the lifestyle of addiction and live in God’s will. A compassion and burden for the Teen Challenge Ministry was birthed in the heart of Reverend Phillip McClain in 1966 as he read a book by David Wilkerson, “The Cross and the Switchblade”. After reading, he immediately began a street ministry. From 1968 to 1970, he served as a pastor in Whitehall, Michigan but his burden for street ministry and the desperate constrained him to resign from his position at the church in 1970. The Muskegon Yacht Club will host the Muskegon Powerboat Weekend to the public showcase of boats including a Friday night Burger Night (Boats, Burgers & Beer) and Saturday’s Poker Run and Captain and Crew Party. The Boat Showcase includes, Cat Can Do, a 42’ race boat, selections by Hall’s Sports Center, and a Classic Chris Craft that you must see. Muskegon Powerboat Weekend
Duck Lake State Park is a 728-acre day-use park, located in Muskegon County. Featuring a towering sand dune, the park stretches from the northern shore of Duck Lake to Lake Michigan. The terrain is a mixture of open brush land to mature hardwood forest, with some pockets of open meadows mixed in. The land was purchased by the Nature Conservancy from two Boy Scout organizations, and acquired by the state in 1974. Remains of the old scout camps were removed and access roads were constructed. The park was officially dedicated in the spring of 1988. A new entrance off of Scenic Drive was completed in May 2005. Duck Lake State Park, which runs along the north side of Duck Lake to Lake Michigan, features a large sand dune. A beach at the mouth of Duck Lake is a popular spot for swimming and fishing. Blessing of the Boats Blessing of the Boats is a celebration of the beginning of a new season. The event includes the Lost Boat Ceremony, Channel Lighthouse Walk, the Gathering of the Fleet in the South Breakwater Cove and then watch as the NOAA boat Laurentian perform the ceremonial “Washing of the Lighthouse”. The boats will follow the Port City Princess and Laurentian through the channel in the “Parade of Boats”, leading to the “Blessing of the Boats” as the Princess slows just inside Muskegon Lake to bless the boats passing by. Community members are asked to join the fun at the lighthouse, enjoying the sites as the boats parade down the channel. Also, join the fun at Dockers Fish House for Sunday Funday or have some fun at the Boaters Dune Area. Summer is here and you’re invited to the exciting yearly celebration of the beginning of boating season. Head to the Muskegon Channel Area for a full day of commemoration, boating, beaches and great scenery. Blessing of the Boats Events:

Pioneer Park is a popular 145-acre park offering camping, swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, tennis, softball, basketball and volleyball. The park is filled with a variety of mixed oak, maple, white pine and hemlock pine trees. This Muskegon’s most popular park. Pioneer Park is located on Lake Michigan and has over 2,000 feet of white sandy beach frontage. The park is located close to Michigan’s Adventure amusement park, Silversides WWII submarine, museums, theaters, summer festivals and other Muskegon County area attractions. Pioneer park is located on Lake Michigan on Scenic Drive, north of Muskegon. Take US 31 to the Fremont/Big Rapids (M120) Exit, go south west on M120 to Giles Road, turn right (west) on Giles and follow approximately 6 miles to the end of the road. Turn right (north) on Scenic Drive, the park entrance is one quarter of a mile on the left.

Lakeshore Art Festival – July 4th & 5th For decades, art has been a driving force in downtown Muskegon. The Lakeshore Art Festival continues that tradition with a unique blend of arts, crafts, music, food and fun along the scenic shoreline. The Lakeshore Art Festival features hundreds of artists and crafters, a Children’s Lane, street performers and a food area including an Artisan Food Market and festival food favorites. In 1961 Hackley Park became the center for a large scale art and craft show known as Muskegon Art in the Park. In 2013, the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce took the local Art in the Park event to the next level with the creation of the Lakeshore Art Festival!
